After her marriage ended, Jane Lawes remained in the Louisville area until her death occurred in 1879.  Josiah B. Lawes married Mary McDonnell in 1857 in Nelson County.   Records available prove Josiah and his family moved from one nearby county to another likely due to his occupation as a plasterer.   When censused in 1850, Josiah and Jane have an infant listed in their household William I. Lawes age one but neither Jane nor Josiah are ever enumerated with a William beyond that census.

The 1860 Jefferson County Federal Census enumerates Jane as the Head Mistress of a "House of Ill Fame".  She is listed as a 32 year old white female living in Louisville. Kentucky.  She is enumerated with Alice Lawes age 7 and Alex Gilmore Lawes age 1 along with seven prostitutes.  That same year a  book was published by Francis Vincent compiling interesting events that occurred in the United States between January 1st and July 1st in 1860.
