William and Matilda have an unknown male age 5-9 and an unknown female age 30-39 in their household in 1830.  They are living in Grayson County, Kentucky at that time.  The family removes to Illinois sometime after 1831 and before 1834.  Rachel Watkins, mother of Matilda, is enumerated in Grayson County, Kentucky living alone age 60-69 in 1830.  Researchers claim she died about this time.  Isaiah Watkins, father of Matilda, died before 1820.  A large number of Grayson Countians migrated northwest to Illinois about 1831 according to an account posted of Jacob Rhoads.  Jacob's son Josiah married Susanna Watkins an older sister of Matilda.  The account can be read from the post of Susanna Watkins Rhoads.

Note:
William Jolly and Matilda Watkins offer their oldest daughter the middle name of "Phillips" according to several different applications to the Sons of the American Revolution.  These application are sent by descendants of Sarah Phillips Jolly Haycraft but do not list Sarah Phillips parents or grandparents.  Phillips is an unusual middle name for a female unless she was named for the maiden name of a grandmother.  Matilda Watkins mother is known only to be Rachel Leggett, but no records are available to confirm this.  It is only theory that Rachel Watkins may have been born a Phillips and would offer an explanation as to why Rachel, wife of Isaiah Watkins of Grayson County, Kentucky's ascendancy is undiscovered.
